I said I'd post if anything interesting happens on my Sunday ride...and we had a few interesting incidents!
My friend and fellow Ironman trainee, Steve Donovan, and I got together to ride for 4 hours on a GORGEOUS July morning. We set out to do one of the Bombay Bicycle Routes - Rock of Gibraltar. We headed North, enjoying the weather and the quiet country roads. About 20 miles into the ride, Steve announces 'I've lost the map'! Awesome! We were definitely winging it at that point, but both relied on the fact that we had cell phones if we got totally lost.
About 2 hours into the ride, we arrived in Prairie du Sac. We attempted to find a gas station and grab a map, but weren't having any luck. We knew if we jumped back on 188, we'd hit Wollersheim Winery.
Wollersheim is a beautiful little winery in Western Wisconsin. It just so happens that it was opening in about 10 minutes. It was a unanimous vote to stop in and enjoy a glass of fine wine mid-ride. This is probably not a conventional training method, but we both needed the break.
After Wollersheim, we finished out our ride. It was pretty uneventful from that point forward. A lot of riding, hill climbing and enjoying the day. Once we arrived back at Fleet Feet, we ran for about 15 minutes to cap off our day of training.
6 weeks, 6 days to IM WI 2007
Congrats to all those who rocked at the Racine Half Ironman. Wow!

I think that was the first time that a glass of Prairie Fume kicked my ass.
